Dan Hurley has developed into one of the top coaches in college basketball, guiding the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team to two national championships and leading them to the 2026 Final Four, where they are set to play for a third title in four seasons. While Hurley often commands attention on the sidelines, his wife, Andrea Hurley, has emerged as a viral figure in her own right, loudly supporting the team despite admitting she has “zero interest in the game.”

Hurley, now 53 credited Andrea for helping prevent chaos after Braylon Mullins hit an improbable three against the Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team to send UConn to the Final Four. The moment followed Hurley going viral for making contact with a referee after the shot, which is famously known by the fans as the ‘Dan Hurley headbutt.'

The UConn coach later explained that Andrea ensured the bench did not storm the court, a move that could have resulted in a costly technical foul. Hurley referred to his wife as the “Jersey Boss Lady” after the impromptu assist.


“Yeah, she’s a boss,” Dan said of his wife Andrea, per Fox News’ Scott Thompson. “She’s the Jersey Boss Lady. And her language is colorful, too. “I mean, she was grabbing people around the back of their warmups. And she doesn’t know anything about basketball, you know?”

Andrea Hurley, born Andrea Sirikades, met Dan when both attended Seton Hall University. The two were college sweethearts and married while she was still a student. They have now been together for close to 39 years. Despite being part of one of college basketball’s most high-profile coaching families, she has often acknowledged her limited knowledge of the sport.

The couple offered insight into their relationship during a 2025 interview with 60 Minutes. “I don’t even know what a screen is,” Andrea admitted to “60 Minutes” after explaining how she helps Dan move on after losses. “I don’t even know what that is.”


Hurley has said Andrea’s perspective helps him decompress, keeping basketball from dominating their home life.

The couple, who married in 1997, has two children, Andrew and Danny. Andrew played four seasons at UConn under his father before joining the coaching staff after his playing career. During a 2023 interview with WTNH News 8, Andrew described his mother as the one running the household, something Andrea happily confirmed.

“I’m in charge,” Andrea told WTNH News 8 at the time. “I’m 1,000% in charge, and they’re all afraid of me, including the big guy (Dan Hurley).”

Andrea also ventured into podcasting. She became friends with Nicole Kellogg, then coaching at Massachusetts, and the two launched the “Ball is Wife” podcast in 2021 to discuss life as coaches’ spouses.

About the podcast, Andrea said, "Who else feels like us? Is anybody else going through this? What do other coaches' wives do on game day? What do other coaches' wives do when you have four losses in a row? Like, what do you do? How do you feel? What about your kids? How are your kids reacting to this profession and the good and the bad that come with it?" The podcast had six episodes.

Fundraising and personal motivation

Andrea has also been involved in fundraising through Coaches vs. Cancer. Her advocacy stems from a personal loss, her father, Ken Sirakides, died of colon cancer in 2005.

“I don’t want anybody to ever feel like I felt with my dad,” she said to the Providence Journal in 2016. “He’s missed so much.”
