A bronze statue of Cristiano Ronaldo was set on fire outside the CR7 Museum in Funchal, Madeira, in a shocking act of vandalism that quickly sparked global attention after a video went viral on social media. In the clip, a man pours a flammable liquid over the statue and lights it before backing away and dancing to music. According to Fox Sports, the offender also posted the footage on Instagram with a bizarre caption: 'This is God's last warning'. According to OneFootball, Portuguese police have confirmed that they have identified the person responsible for the incident, but he has not yet been arrested.

Despite the dramatic images, early reports suggest the fire was quickly extinguished, reported OneFootball. It is still unclear whether the statue suffered any permanent damage, as officials continue to carry out inspections. According to OneFootball, the statue had earlier been relocated from another spot on the island in March 2016 after a previous act of vandalism believed to be linked to rival fan reactions.

Several CR7’s supporters and public figures voiced their anger online, calling the act disrespectful to both the football legend and the island that honors his legacy. Ronaldo remains a national symbol in Portugal and a global football icon, with several landmarks in Madeira celebrating his rise from the island to football greatness.
