Baylor Scheierman earns 'Name to Know' honors in tough Celtics loss

Baylor Scheierman delivered a near-flawless shooting display, but it wasn’t enough as the Boston Celtics fell 106-112 to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night. Coming off the bench, Scheierman caught fire, scoring 20 points on an efficient 7-of-8 shooting while missing only one shot, including 6-of-7 from beyond the arc. He was especially lethal after halftime, drilling five triples in the second half and staying perfect from deep in the fourth quarter. His six made threes matched a career-best performance from last season. Scheierman also impressed with four rebounds and zero turnovers in 30 minutes, earning 'Name to Know' honors for the night.


Despite his breakout effort, New York controlled key moments late in the game. Josh Hart led the charge with 26 points, while Jalen Brunson added 25 points and 10 assists to extend the Knicks’ home winning streak to six games. A clutch three-pointer from Hart in the final seconds sealed the result after Boston had cut the deficit to three.


Karl-Anthony Towns contributed 16 points and 12 rebounds for New York, which remains in contention for a higher playoff seed in the Eastern Conference. For Boston, Jayson Tatum recorded 24 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists, while Payton Pritchard chipped in 23.


The Boston Celtics, who face the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night, were without leading scorer Jaylen Brown, sidelined due to left Achilles tendinitis. Brown came into the game averaging 28.8 points, seven rebounds, and 5.2 assists per contest this season.

Both teams traded momentum early, with each building leads of up to seven points in the first quarter before Boston edged ahead 29-26. The New York Knicks responded with a 10-0 surge in the second quarter to take a 33-29 lead and carried a narrow 54-53 advantage into halftime.


In the third quarter, Karl-Anthony Towns sparked New York with consecutive baskets to extend the lead to 72-59. However, Boston answered with a 9-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Payton Pritchard, briefly reclaiming the lead at 78-76. The Celtics held a slim 83-81 edge heading into the final quarter.

With Tatum expected to sit out the next game for Achilles management, the rookie wing could see an expanded role as Boston looks to secure the No. 2 seed against the New Orleans Pelicans.
