Hideo Kojima’s ‘Physint’ moves from PlayStation to Xbox after Sony cancels action-espionage project
Hideo Kojima's anticipated action-espionage game 'Physint' has officially shifted to Xbox for publishing, following the cancellation of its collaboration with PlayStation. This transition not only allows Xbox to publish 'Physint' but also opens av...

Kojima (in picture) said the change followed PlayStation’s decision in June to cancel its involvement in “Physint.”
The change was announced in an Xbox blog post published on Wednesday, September 9. Xbox also revealed that its partnership with Kojima Productions will extend beyond video games, with the two companies planning to collaborate on film and television projects.
Why ‘Physint’ moved from PlayStation to Xbox
Kojima said the change followed PlayStation’s decision in June to cancel its involvement in “Physint.” “As confirmed earlier through our official channels, in mid-June of this year, we unexpectedly received notice from PlayStation Studios that they would cancel the PHYSINT project,” Kojima wrote in a X post.
“PHYSINT is an important project both to me personally and to KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS. Determined to keep the project alive, we have spent the last three months searching tirelessly for a new partner. In the course of seeking advice and pursuing negotiations with people across many fields, we found in XBOX a partner with whom we share a common vision for the future, and we have decided to team up with them once again. Please rest assured that development of PHYSINT, our genre-defining action-espionage title, is ongoing and will continue moving forward.”
Xbox responded to the announcement, saying, “It's an honor to build the future together.”
PlayStation, meanwhile, said its decision did not signal an end to its relationship with Kojima.
“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to step away from collaborating with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on its project PHYSINT. We continue to have great admiration for Hideo Kojima’s vision for the game. Our relationship remains strong after three decades of industry-leading, genre-defining creative cooperation, and we look forward to continued close collaboration with Hideo Kojima and his award-winning independent studio in the future.”
Xbox already has another Kojima game in development
“Physint” is not the first Kojima Productions project that Xbox is publishing. Xbox is already set to publish “OD,” an upcoming horror video game created by Kojima in collaboration with filmmaker Jordan Peele.
Kojima’s relationship with Xbox expands beyond games
The new agreement also marks a broader collaboration between Xbox and Kojima Productions. According to Xbox, their partnership will extend into film and television, with the companies working together to bring new stories to wider audiences.
Talks between Kojima and Xbox had already been underway earlier this year, following the arrival of new CEO Asha Sharma, who replaced Phil Spencer.
