TMZ reported that he was found dead at a friend's house. His grandparents told the outlet that he died February 22, sometime at a friend’s house in Los Angeles. According to them, his wallet was completely emptied. They reportedly warned him about the people he had been spending time with as his fame started taking off. The exact cause of death was unknown at the time of filing of this report.

His cause of death is currently listed by the L.A. medical examiner as “deferred.” LAPD did not send homicide detectives to the scene ... and said the case was with the coroner. Now nearly a week after his death, more details have emerged about his movements hours prior to his death.

Luci4’s father details his movements before his death

The father of Luci4, born James Dear IV, told TMZ last Saturday that his son was running late to catch a 10:52pm flight to Miami for a concert. There was a pre-boarding issue with the TSA, and James became extremely upset. His father said that LAX Police then got involved and he was detained.

Officers reached out to James’ grandmother to “inquire about his mental welfare and expressed concerns that he may have been under the influence,” his father told TMZ. She was informed that he would be taken to hospital due to alleged erratic behaviour and for his safety. His father further told the outlet that James had no history of diagnosed mental illness.

About 20 minutes later, James called his grandmother to say he was no longer detained and that if there wasn’t another flight, he would drop by her home for fresh clothes. He never showed up. The next day, February 22, Luci4 was found dead.
