In a shocking incident, Sheridan Gorman, a student at Loyola University Chicago, tragically lost her life after being shot in the head when a gunman opened fire on a group, according to multiple media reports. The incident has shocked the campus community and raised concerns about safety in the area. Gorman, 18, was fatally shot near the Lake Shore campus early Thursday morning, March 19, while walking with friends.

Chicago Police said she was not the intended target, describing the shooting as a tragic case of mistaken identity. The suspect, reportedly wearing a face mask, remains unidentified as authorities continue their investigation. The incident has deeply shaken the campus community, prompting the university to offer counseling services and support to students and staff during this difficult time.

According to a university safety alert, as reported by People, the shooting occurred around 1:15 AM on March 19 at a pier at Tobey Prinz Beach. Gorman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was walking with a group of friends when a male suspect opened fire in their direction, the Chicago Police Department said.


Mark C. Reed, president of Loyola University Chicago, identified Gorman as the victim in a statement to the campus community, describing the incident as a 'tragic loss'.

"It is with profound sadness that I write to share that one of our students, Sheridan Gorman, was killed earlier today in an incident north of the Lake Shore Campus. This is a tragic loss, and our hearts go out to Sheridan’s family, loved ones, and all who knew her," Reed said in a statement.
