Congregation Beth Israel, recognized as the oldest Jewish place of worship in Texas, dates back to the 1850s.
A woman from North Carolina and a teenager in Texas have been taken into custody over an alleged plan to carry out a violent attack at a synagogue in Houston, according to FBI and court records. Investigators say the suspects intended to use a vehicle to target members of Congregation Beth Israel. Angelina Han Hicks, 18, was arrested in Davidson County, North Carolina. She faces felony charges, including conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon. Officials confirmed she is being held in the Davidson County Jail with bail set at $10 million. Congregation Beth Israel, recognized as the oldest Jewish place of worship in Texas, dates back to the 1850s. In addition to serving as a synagogue, it also runs an educational program for students through the fifth grade.

In a related development, as reported by Houston Public Media, the Houston Police Department said a 16-year-old in Harris County has also been charged, specifically with conspiracy to commit capital murder tied to the alleged scheme. Authorities noted that the Alief Independent School District Police Department played a role in assisting with the arrest. The case remains under investigation as law enforcement continues to examine the details surrounding the alleged plot.

The arrests come just weeks after a violent incident at a synagogue in the Detroit metropolitan area, where an armed man rammed a pickup truck into a Jewish place of worship in an apparent targeted attack. Authorities said the suspect aimed to cause maximum harm before being stopped.

According to court filings, Angelina is accused of plotting an attack targeting Congregation Beth Israel, allegedly scheduled for April 21, 2028. Investigators say the plan involved using a vehicle to drive into a synagogue gathering, with the stated intent of causing mass harm to members of the Jewish community.

Court records also allege that Angelina planned the attack with two individuals identified only as 'Teegan' and 'Angel'. Authorities have not released their full identities, and it remains unclear whether the juvenile charged in Harris County is among those named in the documents.
In a statement, as cited by Houston Public Media, the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office said investigators have identified additional suspected co-conspirators located outside North Carolina, as the case continues to develop.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said its Charlotte Joint Terrorism Task Force launched the probe Tuesday evening after receiving a tip passed along by a North Carolina law enforcement agency. Although arrest warrants suggest the alleged attack was being planned for a future date, Davidson County Senior Assistant District Attorney Alan Martin said officials were also worried about the possibility of a more immediate threat targeting the Houston synagogue. Authorities have not yet revealed a clear motive behind the suspected plan, and the investigation remains ongoing.
