Wayne police launches probe after reports of shots fired at Willowbrook Mall in New Jersey; what do we know so far

Shooting in New Jersey: Wayne Police in New has launched an investigation into an incident at Willowbrook Mall based on reports of shots fired on Tuesday night (December 30, 2025). There were no reports of injuries or fatalities at the time of filing of this report.

"Wayne Police are currently investigating an incident at Willowbrook Mall that involved the reports of shots fired. Numerous officers are on-scene and the situation is stable. We ask that everyone avoid Willowbrook Mall at this time," police said in a post on X.





According to CBS News, NJ Transit said buses heading to and from the mall could face delays due to police on the scene.

Wayne Police Chief issues statement

Following the shooting incident, Wayne Police Chief Joseph Rooney issued a statement saying that gunfire occurred just after 7 p.m. in the food court. He said that shots were fired after some altercation. He also noted that multiple suspects were seen fleeing the scene.

No injuries were reported and some "subjects were detained for investigation," Rooney said, as quoted by CBS News. "At this time, the situation at Willowbrook Mall is under control and all are asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues," he added. The initial call about shots fired prompted a massive police response.
