“There has been an explosion of unknown origin,” Gaetan Lathion, a police spokesperson in Wallis canton in southwestern Switzerland, told AFP. “There are several injured, and several dead.”
According to Sky News, Swiss police confirmed that the incident is not being treated as terror-related. The blast reportedly happened at around 1:30 am local time. Swiss outlet Blick reported that the explosion may have been caused by pyrotechnics used during a concert at the venue, though authorities have not confirmed the cause.
Images published by Swiss media and circulating on social media showed the building engulfed in flames, with emergency services responding at the scene.
Police have sealed off the area around the bar and declared a no-fly zone as emergency and rescue operations continue.
