Verizon has announced that a recent service outage has been fully resolved and that account credits will be issued to affected customers. The disruption, which impacted users in several areas for a large part of the day Wednesday, led to temporary issues with calls, text messages, and data services. As a gesture of goodwill, the company will apply credits directly to customer accounts. Verizon apologized for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience. According to AFP, internet service tracker DownDetector said it received more than 1.5 million reports of problems with Verizon mobile and internet connections. Reports of Verizon service issues continued into the night, as per DownDetector.

"The outage has been resolved. If customers are still having an issue, we encourage them to restart their devices to reconnect to the network," Verizon posted on X in its latest update.

Earlier, Verizon took to social media platform and apologized for letting their customers down

"Today, we let many of our customers down and for that, we are truly sorry," Verizon said in a post on X, adding, "We are working non-stop and making progress. Our teams will continue to work through the night until service is restored for all impacted customers."

The cause of the outage remains unclear, and Verizon, one of the world’s largest mobile carriers with about 146.1 million US subscribers, has not disclosed the full extent of the disruption or what caused it. The problem began around 12:30 PM Eastern time and continued into the evening, drawing widespread attention. Many phones showed 'SOS' in the status bar instead of the usual cellular signal icon. A feature that allows calls over Wi-Fi also appeared to be unavailable.

Officials in New York and Washington reportedly urged affected residents to use other carriers or landlines for emergency calls. In Washington, residents were told to visit a police station or firehouse to report emergencies.
