Ukrainian researchers claim they found over 20 ‘UFOs’ using Moon as a base; could reach Earth in 20 minutes

Ukrainian researchers has claimed that mysterious objects detected near the Moon could be evidence of a “technologically advanced civilisation” that is not human, suggesting that the lunar surface may be serving as a possible base for unidentified flying objects (UFOs).

The researchers, from Ukraine’s Main Astronomical Observatory, reported detecting more than 20 unusual objects near the Moon in high-speed video recordings captured in August and September 2025. Their study, titled “UFO Dynamics on the Moon,” has not yet undergone peer review, and its claims have not been independently verified.

In the report, researchers Boris Zhilyaev, Vladimir Petukhov and Sergey Pokhvala wrote: “We believe that the Moon serves as a base for UFOs.” And “UFOs can reach Earth in 20 minutes.”


They further claimed that these objects could travel from the Moon to Earth within minutes and appear as unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP).

“UFOs demonstrate intelligent behavior and can be regarded as a technologically advanced civilisation,” the researchers noted.

Researchers classify Moon objects into two categories

According to the study, researchers divided the observed objects into two groups: “Atmospheric” UFOs, described as stationary objects, and “Continental” UFOs, which appeared to move across the Moon’s surface.

The largest group of more than 20 objects was recorded during two observation periods on September 7, 2025, beginning at 7:05 p.m. and 7:27 p.m. ET.

Additional ring-shaped objects were reportedly detected during another observation on August 16, 2025, at 2:52 a.m. ET. The recordings were captured using a high-speed camera attached to a telescope in Vinarivka, a village in Ukraine’s Kyiv region.

The researchers said the objects showed changes in brightness and described the atmospheric objects as “very impressive in size.” They claimed the objects appeared to move in coordination with the Moon, as if they were fixed relative to it.

Study claims objects showed unusual movement and brightness patterns

The report said the detected objects produced rapid flashes lasting between one-tenth and half a second. Researchers described the brightness changes as a pulsing process, where the intensity increased and decreased over time.

They also claimed that two objects believed to be hundreds of miles apart appeared to flash simultaneously.

The so-called continental UFOs were described as disc-shaped objects measuring approximately 25 and 40 kilometers in diameter. According to the researchers, these objects appeared to move rapidly across the Moon’s surface, with one allegedly traveling nearly 14 miles at a speed of 4.1 miles per second.

Researchers claim ring-shaped objects reached extreme speeds

During the August 16 observation, researchers said they detected large ring-shaped objects against the daytime sky. They said the objects were difficult to see until the footage was enhanced using false colors.

The report claimed that the objects did not emit light but instead absorbed nearly all radiation striking them.

Researchers estimated that the ring-shaped objects rotated every three minutes, measured roughly 22 miles across, and reached speeds of 6.8 miles per second. They calculated that the objects could generate centrifugal forces more than twice Earth's gravity.

The report stated: “Objects have unprecedentedly large sizes, and unprecedentedly high velocities.”

Ian Clague, CEO of Dirac Drives from Cambridge, told the researchers: “I have studied UFOs and I see that no country on Earth has developed such a propulsion system. The physics of such a propulsion system are beyond the accepted physics here on Earth”.

Findings remain unverified

The study has not been peer-reviewed, meaning it has not yet been evaluated by independent experts in the scientific community. The claims made by the researchers have also not been independently confirmed.

The report has also drawn scrutiny because of previous concerns regarding work from the same research group. In 2022, Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences concluded that earlier UAP research from the group contained “significant errors” and “did not meet the professional standards for scientific publication,” according to reporting by The Debrief.
