Trump announces $1,776 stimulus check as 'warrior dividend' for every US soldier before Christmas

President Donald Trump announced that more than 1.45 million US military service members will receive a special “warrior dividend” of $1,776 each before Christmas. The announcement came during a prime-time address, closely watched amid the 79-year-old president’s declining approval ratings.

Trump described the payments as a tribute to the nation’s founding in 1776, saying, “Nobody deserves it more than our military.” He explained that the checks would be funded in part through revenue generated from tariffs, along with provisions from a recently passed legislative bill. “We made a lot more money than anybody thought because of tariffs and the bill helped us along,” Trump said.

The announcement is being viewed as a bold political move aimed at bolstering support among veterans and active-duty personnel during a period of mounting criticism over his policies and political influence. The president emphasized that the payments were already “on the way” and framed the initiative as recognition of the sacrifices made by service members.

Minutes into his speech, Trump also criticized the previous Biden administration, saying he “inherited a mess” upon returning to office in January. He went on to highlight his efforts on immigration, claiming, “We inherited the worst border anywhere in the world, and we quickly turned it into the strongest border in the history of our country.” Trump framed the turnaround as a rapid achievement, going “from worst to best” in just a few months.
