Boston Massacre shocks colonial America (1770)
On March 5, 1770, British soldiers guarding the Boston Customs House fired into a crowd of civilians after tensions escalated in the streets. Surrounded by angry colonists throwing snowballs and debris, the soldiers lost control when one of them was struck. The troops opened fire despite orders not to shoot, killing three people instantly and wounding several others, two of whom later died. The incident became a powerful symbol for colonial resistance against British rule.

John Hancock’s Massacre Day speech (1774)
