An X account linked to the TikTok USDS Joint Venture blamed an Oracle data center for the disruption, saying “creators may temporarily experience lags in posting content” while the issue is being resolved.
Downdetector data shows reports of service disruptions began increasing shortly before 1 pm, stabilized for a period, and then climbed sharply again around 3:30 pm.
By 9 pm, thousands of outage reports had been logged on Downdetector, with the total continuing to rise into the night.
According to NBCNewYork website, Downdetector data indicated that outages were reported in major metropolitan areas including New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles, as well as San Diego, Phoenix, Houston, Washington and Minneapolis.
According to TechCrunch website, Oracle is part of the investor group that holds an 80 percent stake in the TikTok USDS Joint Venture, formed to comply with a national security law requiring China-based ByteDance to divest its US TikTok operations or face a ban.
