Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, was a spiritual teacher who lived in ancient India around the 5th century BCE. He was born into a royal family and lived a life of comfort and luxury. However, he became troubled by human suffering after seeing sickness, old age, and death. Wanting to understand why people suffer, he left his palace, family, and wealth to search for truth.
After years of strict meditation and self-discipline, Siddhartha realized that extreme comfort and extreme hardship were not the answers. He chose a balanced path, later called the Middle Way. While meditating under a Bodhi tree, he reached enlightenment and became known as the Buddha, which means 'the Awakened One'.
Buddha taught that life includes suffering, but suffering can be reduced or ended by understanding its causes. His main teachings are known as the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. These lessons focus on right thinking, right action, and right living. Buddha encouraged kindness, honesty, patience, and mindfulness in everyday life.
Buddha did not claim to be a god. Instead, he taught people to rely on their own understanding and actions. His message was simple: peace comes from within. His teachings spread across Asia and later around the world, forming the foundation of Buddhism. Even today, millions of people follow Buddha’s teachings to find inner peace, compassion, and wisdom.
