Thousands of families across Texas are set to receive their monthly Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits this week, loaded onto Lone Star cards, reported Futbolete. Payments are not issued all at once. Instead, Texas follows a staggered system based on each household’s Eligibility Determination Group (EDG) number, with funds typically deposited at midnight on the assigned date.

SNAP benefits are distributed over the first 28 days of every month. According to Futbolete, households certified before June 1, 2020, receive payments between the 1st and 15th, based on the last digit of their EDG number. Most recipients - those enrolled after that date - are paid between the 16th and 28th, using the last two digits. This week covers March 16-22 payments.

According to the official schedule from the United States Department of Agriculture, as reported by Futbolete, administered in Texas by the Health and Human Services Commission, this week’s SNAP deposits are issued in the following order:

  • March 16 (Monday): EDG ending in 00-03 and 54-57
  • March 17 (Tuesday): EDG ending in 04-06 and 58-60
  • March 18 (Wednesday): EDG ending in 07-10 and 61-64
  • March 19 (Thursday): EDG ending in 11-13 and 65-67
  • March 20 (Friday): EDG ending in 14-17 and 68-71
  • March 21 (Saturday): EDG finished at 18-20 and 72-74
  • March 22 (Sunday): EDG finished in 21-24 and 75-78

HOW TO FIND EDG NUMBER

The EDG number is listed on official letters from the Health and Human Services Commission when a case is approved or renewed, reported Futbolete. It’s also available in the Your Texas Benefits app or website. Recipients can call the Lone Star Card hotline at 800-777-7328 if needed.

HOW MUCH DO BENEFICIARIES GET IN 2026

Monthly SNAP benefits in Texas vary based on household size and income. According to Futbolete, for fiscal year 2026, the maximum ranges from $298 for one person to $994 for a family of four, with an additional $218 per extra member. The average household benefit is about $401, though it may be lower depending on net income.

RESTRICTIONS TO START IN APRIL FOR TEXAS SNAP

Starting April 1, 2026, Texas will introduce new limits on what can be purchased with SNAP benefits. With approval from the United States Department of Agriculture, items such as sugary drinks, candy, and some snack foods will no longer be eligible. These changes will not impact this week’s payments. However, recipients should take note and plan ahead, adjusting their grocery choices before the new rules take effect.
