According to the AP, Tacoma Fire Department spokesperson Chelsea Shepherd said five people were taken from Foss High School to local hospitals - four in critical condition and one with minor injuries. She also noted that a sixth person, who was in police custody, was hospitalized with minor injuries. By late afternoon, all were reported to be in stable condition.
Tacoma Police spokesperson Shelbie Boyd said all of those injured had suffered stab wounds or cuts. The suspect was also among those injured during the altercation.
Tacoma Public Schools said the campus was placed on lockdown at 1:38P M. after the violence began, as reported by the news agency, and students were safely dismissed by 2:45 PM. Police confirmed the school was secure and the investigation was ongoing. All classes and after-school activities for Friday were canceled. The school is scheduled to reopen on Monday with counselors available to support students and staff.
According to FOX 13, students recounted chaotic scenes during the incident, though some of their accounts could not be independently confirmed.
