SSI RECIPIENTS GET FIRST TWO PAYMENTS
The first Social Security-related payment each month goes to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients, who will receive their April 2026 benefit on April 1. This program is designed to support seniors and people with disabilities who have limited income and resources.
The second payment follows a different schedule and is not tied to birth dates. It applies to individuals who began receiving Social Security before May 1997, as well as those who receive both Social Security and SSI. These beneficiaries are set to receive their payment on April 3.
WHO WILL RECEIVE SSA PAYOUTS ON APRIL 8?
The next round is sent on April 15 to those born between the 11th and 20th, including eligible survivors, matching the third Wednesday schedule. The final payment is released on April 22 for beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st, completing the month’s distribution.
In addition, April payments continue to reflect the 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), which has been in effect since January 2026 to help keep benefits in line with inflation.
HOW COLA BOOSTS YOUR RETIREMENT PAYMENTS IN 2026
According to Futbolete, the COLA increase practically adds about $56 per month for the average retiree, bringing the typical benefit to roughly $2,071. However, this is only an average - actual payments vary widely depending on how much a person earned and how long they contributed during their working years.
Payments are deposited automatically, requiring no action from beneficiaries. This convenience is one of the key advantages of direct deposit, which the SSA has long encouraged over paper checks.
Those still receiving checks by mail may face slight delays and added uncertainty, reported Futbolete. In contrast, recipients using a bank account or Direct Express card typically see their money arrive promptly without any manual process.
