With payments spread across the month, knowing exactly when your money arrives can help avoid uncertainty.
FIRST TWO PAYMENTS RESERVED FOR SSI RECIPIENTS
The first Social Security-related payment each month is reserved for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients, who will receive their April 2026 benefit on the first day of the month (April 1). This program supports seniors and individuals with disabilities who have limited income and financial resources.
The second payment follows a different rule and is not based on birth dates. Instead, it applies to beneficiaries who started receiving Social Security before May 1997 or those who receive both Social Security and SSI. These individuals are scheduled to get their payment on the third day of the month (April 3).
For 2026, SSI maximum federal benefits reflect a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). According to Futbolete, payments can reach up to $994 for individuals, $1,491 for couples, and $498 for essential household members.
REMAINING THREE PAYMENTS LINKED TO BIRTH DATES
Beginning with the third round of payments in April, the SSA follows a three-part weekly schedule based entirely on a beneficiary’s birth date. According to Futbolete, the first of these is issued on April 8, covering retirees, disability recipients, and survivors whose birth dates - or the birth date of a deceased worker for survivor benefits - fall between the 1st and 10th. This date aligns with the second Wednesday of the month.
One week later, on April 15, payments go out to those born between the 11th and 20th, including eligible survivor beneficiaries. This falls on the third Wednesday. The final payment is sent on April 22, for beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st, concluding the monthly distribution cycle for all recipients.
