Franklin D. Roosevelt

Franklin D. Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States, serving from 1933 until he died in 1945 and became the only American president elected to four terms. A central figure in 20th-century history, he led the nation through two of its greatest crises, the Great Depression and most of World War II.

Roosevelt introduced a sweeping series of economic and social reforms known as the New Deal, aimed at stabilizing the economy, creating jobs, and providing relief to millions of Americans struggling during the economic collapse of the 1930s.

Born in 1882 in Hyde Park, New York, Roosevelt came from a prominent political family and was a distant cousin of former president Theodore Roosevelt.

Before becoming president, he served as governor of New York and earlier as assistant secretary of the Navy. Despite being paralyzed from the waist down after contracting Polio in 1921, Roosevelt maintained an active political career and projected strong leadership. His presidency reshaped the role of the federal government in American life and established the United States as a leading global power during the war era.
