Who is the Dalai Lama?

The Dalai Lama, born Tenzin Gyatso, is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and a globally respected advocate for peace and compassion. Born in 1935 in the small village of Taktser in northeastern Tibet, he was recognized at the age of two as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama, according to Tibetan Buddhist tradition.
