The Powerball jackpot surged to an estimated $88 million for the March 16 drawing, reigniting excitement among players across the United States. As of Monday evening, officials had not confirmed any ticket matching all six numbers. If no winner emerges, the prize pool will roll over and continue to grow for the next draw.

Lottery organizers are urging participants to double-check their tickets. Even without a jackpot winner, multiple lower-tier prizes may still be awarded, ranging from modest cash sums to multimillion-dollar payouts depending on how many numbers are matched.

The eventual winner will have a choice between two payout options. The annuity, valued at roughly $88 million, is distributed over 30 years in annual installments that typically increase by about 5 percent. Alternatively, winners can opt for a one-time lump sum, currently estimated at around $40 million before taxes.

Despite steep odds of about 1 in 292.2 million, the game continues to draw widespread participation. Tickets are available in 45 states, along with Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

This latest rollover follows a recent string of major wins. On March 2, a ticket in Arkansas landed a $250.8 million jackpot via the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery. The prize ranks as the state’s second-largest Powerball win, behind the record $1.817 billion jackpot awarded in December 2025. Earlier, a ticket in North Carolina secured an estimated $209 million jackpot on January 21, underscoring a recent run of big lottery payouts.
