Despite the extremely low odds of hitting the jackpot - roughly 1 in 292.2 million - Powerball remains one of the most popular lottery games in the US.
The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $57 million for the May 11 drawing after no player matched all six numbers in the previous draw. As of Monday night, lottery officials had not announced any jackpot winner, allowing the grand prize to continue growing. If no winning ticket is sold in the upcoming draw, the jackpot will roll over once again and increase further.

Officials are reminding players to double-check their tickets, as thousands of smaller prizes are often left unclaimed after each drawing. Even players who do not win the jackpot can still take home cash prizes by matching some of the winning numbers.

The winner of the top prize will have two payout choices. The first is the annuity option, which distributes the full $57 million over 30 years through annual payments that gradually increase by around 5 percent. The second option is a lump-sum cash payment currently valued at approximately $25.7 million before taxes.

Despite the extremely low odds of hitting the jackpot - roughly 1 in 292.2 million - Powerball remains one of the most popular lottery games in the United States. Tickets are available in 45 states, as well as Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands.

Interest in the game has stayed high thanks to several major wins already recorded this year. A lucky player in North Carolina claimed a massive $209.3 million jackpot in January, while another winning ticket in Arkansas secured $250.8 million in March. In April, a resident of Delaware won $231 million. More recently, two players split a $143 million jackpot on April 29, while another shared $20 million prize was awarded on May 2, adding even more excitement ahead of the next drawing.
