Powerball jackpot soars to $156 million for January 14 drawing - Here's what you could actually pocket; Florida ticket wins $1 million on Monday night

The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $156 million for the January 14 draw after no ticket matched all six numbers on Monday night, reigniting excitement across the country. The lucky winner will have the option of taking the full $156 million as a 30-year annuity, with payments rising by 5% each year, or a one-time lump sum of about $70.5 million before taxes.

A Powerball ticket sold in Florida won $1 million on January 12 drawing, making it the only million-dollar winner nationwide, reported The Palm Beach Post. The ticket was purchased at a Publix grocery store in South Florida and matched five numbers.

Lottery officials continue to remind players that the odds of winning the jackpot are extremely slim at 1 in 292.2 million. Despite the long odds, Powerball remains hugely popular across 45 states, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Interest surged in December after an Arkansas man won a record-breaking $1.817 billion jackpot on Christmas Eve - only the second Powerball win in the state - and chose a lump-sum payout of $834.9 million.
