Winners have two payout options. They can opt for the annuity, worth about $231 million, which is distributed over 30 years with annual increases of roughly 5 percent. Alternatively, they can choose a lump-sum cash payment, currently estimated at around $105 million before taxes.
Despite the long odds of winning the jackpot - approximately 1 in 292.2 million - the game continues to draw massive participation. Tickets are sold in 45 states, as well as Washington, DC, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
