NYPD inspector reassigned amid sexual assault allegations
A New York Police Department official has been reassigned to modified duty after a lawsuit filed by a subordinate officer alleged sexual assault, as parallel investigations by prosecutors and internal authorities continue.

According to the New York Police Department and internal police records, Inspector Jeremy Scheublin, 45, was stripped of his gun and shield on Wednesday(March 25).

The action follows a detailed legal effort by the alleged victim, an officer at the 46th Precinct, to have Scheublin removed from a supervisory role over her as investigations by the Bronx District Attorney's Office and the New York Police Department continue.

In a March 6 lawsuit, a New York Police Department officer alleged Scheublin assaulted her at the Fordham Heights stationhouse on New Year’s Day 2025 before she escaped.

She managed to flee after kicking him in the groin, the lawsuit alleges, as he tried to remove her gun belt, grabbed her neck, and forcibly kissed and groped her.

According to YahooNews website, despite cooperating with investigations by the Bronx District Attorney's Office under Darcel Clark and the New York Police Department, NT’s accused remained in a supervisory role over her for more than a year. He later moved in January to a senior post at Patrol Borough Bronx, which oversees the 46th Precinct.

In her lawsuit, NT also alleges Scheublin sought to silence her after she reported the incident to the New York Police Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, claiming he changed her schedule to 3 am shifts, removed her partner and reduced her overtime.

During the assault, she alleges, Scheublin made obscene comments, saying, “I don’t know whether to kiss or choke you,” and expressing a wish to “make biracial babies.”

Last week, NT sought a court order to place Scheublin on modified duty, prompting a March 30 hearing, but the New York Police Department acted Wednesday before a ruling.

NT’s lawyer, John Scola, said, “We are pleased Inspector Scheublin has been modified, but make no mistake, this only happened because we dragged the NYPD into court. For 14 months they chose to protect a politically connected inspector over the officer who had the courage to report him,”

The lawsuit, filed earlier this month, seeks unspecified damages and calls for Scheublin to be removed from supervisory duties over female officers until the case is resolved.
