Nintendo Joy-Cons expand with two new color options: Release date, price and pre-order details

Nintendo has unveiled alternative Nintendo Joy-Cons for the Switch 2, introducing two new pastel color options that lean into softer, cooler tones. The new controllers are officially named Light Purple and Light Green. The new Nintendo Switch Joy-Con colors will launch on February 12, alongside the upcoming release of Mario Tennis Fever. “The first new colored Joy-Con 2 controllers—Light Purple and Light Green—also arrive Feb 12,” Nintendo of America announced with a preorder link to the update via its official X account.

Players eager to refresh their console’s look don’t have to wait until launch day. Nintendo has already opened pre-orders for the new Nintendo Joy-Cons, which are priced at $99.99, matching the cost of the original Switch 2 Light Blue and Light Red Joy-Con controllers sold in the US.


Nintendo raised the price of two Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers to $100 in August 2025, up from $94.99. While the Switch 2 console itself avoided a price increase, Nintendo implemented notable hikes across its wider hardware lineup. The original Nintendo Switch now retails at $339.99 (up from $299.99), the Switch OLED at $399.99 (up from $349.99), and the Switch Lite at $299.99 (up from $199.99).

Nintendo did not provide an official explanation for the price increases. However, IGN reported that analysts have attributed the higher costs to the impact of US tariffs on imports from China, Japan, and Vietnam, where a significant portion of Nintendo’s manufacturing operations are based.

With the launch of the new pastel Nintendo Switch Joy-Con colors, Nintendo is offering fans a fresh way to customize their Switch 2 setup at a premium price point. Additionally, Nintendo stated that it can only be used with the Nintendo Switch 2 system.
