Nancy Guthrie Disappearance Update: The high-profile case of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, has gained national attention, and more than two months have passed since the investigation into her alleged abduction began. She has been missing since January 31, 2026 from her Tucson home in Arizona and her family reported her disappearance on February 1, 2026.

With no specific person officially named or charged as a suspect, a former prosecutor and a private investigator have criticized the Pima County Sheriff’s Department for allegedly making critical mistakes in the investigation into Nancy’s disappearance. They alleged that investigators hastily ruled out family members as suspects and failed to properly use cadaver dogs at the crime scene.

Former prosecutor Matt Murphy claimed that the Pima County Sheriff’s Department has moved too quickly to eliminate suspects, including family members, without carrying out a thorough investigation. “The detectives' reluctance to eliminate suspects is a common practice, but in this case, it may have been counterproductive.” Murphy was quoted by National Today as saying.


Meanwhile, private investigator Michael Gould criticized the decision to limit the use of cadaver dogs at the crime scene, which he believes was a 'critical mistake.' “The decision to limit the use of cadaver dogs was a critical mistake, as these dogs are among the most effective tools available in such cases,” he said, as quoted by the outlet.

Sheriff Chris Nanos came out in defense of his team's efforts and said, “I have no regrets,” as quoted by National Today. Gould, however, argued that this reflects a lack of self-awareness about the potential missteps.

Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for nearly two months. The FBI released surveillance videos of a masked man who was outside Guthrie’s front door in Tucson on the night she vanished. The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to the recovery of their mother.
