Nancy Guthrie mystery deepens; propped-open back doors and lack of assault evidence raise questions
Nearly two months after Nancy Guthrie vanished, conflicting details emerge about her Tucson-area home. While her daughter reported propped-open back doors and blood on the porch, investigators note the interior showed no overt signs of an assault....

Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC 'Today' show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was last seen on January 31, 2026, at the Catalina Foothills home in Tucson, Arizona. After missing her expected attendance at a morning church livestream on February 1, family members checked on her and discovered she was gone. Because she had limited mobility and there was no indication she left voluntarily, authorities quickly treated the case as suspicious.
Propped open doors
In a March 26 televised interview, Savannah Guthrie described finding her mother’s back doors “propped open” when relatives arrived at the house.
The revelation of blood on the front doorstep and a security camera ripped off prompted the family to realize something serious was at play.
This detail is now being examined for what it might reveal about the sequence of events. Analysis from law enforcement experts suggests that propped-open doors could have been left that way intentionally by an intruder, potentially to facilitate a quick exit.

No signs of assault inside the house
In a March 31 update, a NewsNation source close to the investigation told reporters that parts of Guthrie’s home appeared “immaculate” with no obvious signs of an assault inside.
According to this account, rooms were described as very clean, inconsistent with a violent struggle occurring inside, raising fresh questions about how the incident unfolded and where exactly the altercation may have occurred.
This starkly contrasts with the initial impression from Savannah’s interview highlighting chaos at the house’s entrance.
Forensic markers and blood evidence
Law enforcement, including the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department, have been canvassing the neighborhood, releasing surveillance footage of a masked person near the home, and following thousands of tips from the public.
Despite multiple leads and continued search efforts, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not publicly identified suspects.
