The image, released by the FBI, showing the suspect at the front door of Nancy’s home without a backpack, was likely captured by her Nest doorbell camera a day before the suspected abduction, sources told ABC News.
The new details, which suggest that the masked suspect scouted Nancy’s home in advance, were also confirmed on Monday by a source with knowledge of the investigation to Fox News Digital. So far, no suspect has been identified by officials in Nancy Guthrie's case.

As the investigation in Nancy Guthrie’s case continues, a theory cited by ABC News sources suggests that the suspect approached the door the first time, noticed the camera, and was scared off. Later he returned and apparently was seen tampering with the device and putting branches in front of the lens.
The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department had not issued any statements and declined to comment at the time of filing this report. This could be a possible reason behind investigators asking neighbors to check their home security systems for suspicious people and vehicles going back to January 1, 2026, a month prior to the abduction.
