Nancy Guthrie abduction case: New note demanding Bitcoin for information on kidnapper emerges
In the new note, received by TMZ just before 5 AM PT, the sender claimed that they have tried unsuccessfully to reach Savannah Guthrie's brother, Camron, and her sister, Annie, by email and text. "If they want the name of the individual involved, then I want 1 Bitcoin to the following wallet. Time is more than relevant," the note further stated.
Note carried bitcoin address
The latest note carried a legitimate bitcoin address, and it was a different address from the one in the original ransom note received by TMZ and 2 Tucson TV news stations.
The news outlet forwarded this note to the FBI. It's unclear if the sender of this note is legit. It is pertinent to note that 1 bitcoin is worth about $66,000 right now. Law enforcement is currently offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy's kidnappers, according to reports.
Cops released the detained man
Police detained a person of interest in the evening for questioning. According to TMZ, the detained man was a deliveryman who was pulled over in a Tucson suburb. The man detained by police for questioning was later released by law enforcement. Investigators hope that images of a masked person on her Arizona porch still will bring tips from the public to help solve her apparent abduction, AP reported.
The man told several media outlets early Wednesday that he was released after several hours and had nothing to do with the mother of NBC “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, as reported by AP. He said he was a delivery man who works in the Tucson area.
Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on February 1, 2026, and authorities say her blood was found on the front porch of her Tucson-area home. Purported ransom notes were sent to news outlets, but two deadlines for paying have passed.
