Salmonella infection is commonly spread through contaminated meat, poultry, dairy, or produce, often due to poor hygiene or improper cooking.
A nationwide recall has been issued for at least eight products sold at ALDI and Walmart due to possible salmonella contamination. The affected items mainly include select frozen pizzas and pork rind snacks that were made using dry milk powder flagged as a potential source of the risk. The warning, released on April 30 by the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), notes that more products could be added to the recall list as the investigation continues.

Salmonella infection is commonly spread through contaminated meat, poultry, dairy, or produce, often due to poor hygiene or improper cooking. Symptoms usually appear within six hours to six days and include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. In severe cases, the infection can lead to complications such as rashes, blood in urine or stool, and, in rare situations, may become life-threatening.

According to The Sun, the FSIS has confirmed that some meat and poultry products sold at Walmart and ALDI nationwide may be contaminated with the illness.

“The problem was discovered when FDA notified FSIS that multiple FSIS-regulated establishments received FDA-regulated ingredients formulated with dry milk powder that had been recalled,” read the notice.

“FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ or retailers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them.”

Walmart spokesperson told USA TODAY in an emailed statement that the health and safety of its customers is always a top priority.

"We have issued a sales restriction and removed this product from our impacted stores," the spokesperson added. "We are working with the supplier to investigate."
