Miami Horror: 10-year-old girl killed, brother critically injured in hit-and-run, car found, hunt for driver continues

A 10-year-old girl was killed, and her brother sustained critical injuries after a hit-and-run case occurred in Miami, Florida, on September 9, 2026 (Wednesday). Now, the victims’ family is pleading for the driver involved in the incident to come forward. According to family members and friends of the victims, the siblings were riding the e-bike when they were struck, NBC Miami reported.

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the incident. They identified the girl who was killed as Peyton and the other victim as her brother, Brent, who sustained injuries.

What do preliminary findings say?

In a press release, the sheriff's office said that its deputies were first called to the intersection of Northwest 117th Street and Northwest 7th Avenue on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at around 8:40 p.m. local time for a report of a hit-and-run crash.

According to authorities, an “unknown driver” made a left turn onto 117th Street and struck two children, a boy and a girl, who were riding their bikes. According to investigators, deputies located a male juvenile and a female juvenile lying on the roadway, both unresponsive. “Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) responded to the scene and transported both victims to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition,” MDSO said in a press release.

Family reacts to hit-and-run incident

Speaking to NBC Miami on Thursday night (September 10, 2026), the aunt of the two siblings said her nephew had undergone brain surgery and that his mother was by his side at the hospital. She spoke to the outlet again on Friday. "She was a cheerleader. Full of life, everybody loved her. And now for this to happen and nobody to come forward is just senseless," she said.

"I just hope somebody just comes forward, have a heart, please. This could’ve been anybody's kids. They just left laying in the road, and it's just terrible. I've never seen anything like this before in my life. This is crazy to hit someone’s kid and keep going."

The family members of the two siblings remembered Peyton as someone who was loved by everyone, and she and her brother, Brent, were inseparable. “They always were together. Always were together,” said their aunt, Patrice.


Authorities and family urge driver to step forward


According to NBC Miami, police initially shared a photo of a silver or gray 2009–2012 Nissan Versa suspected to be involved in the incident. Local 10 News later reported that Traffic Homicide Unit detectives with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office have successfully located and impounded the vehicle. It is now in the agency’s custody, though the search for the driver remains ongoing.

Amid the ongoing investigation, both authorities and family members are urging the driver or anyone with knowledge of the incident to step forward and provide more details related to the hit-and-run incident.

“I can only imagine how the parents feel in this situation,” an MDSO spokesperson told Local 10 News. “So we urge the community, please, if you’re a business owner in this area and you happen to have cameras, please review your cameras. If you were here by chance to witness what occurred, please give us a call.”
