83k bags of frozen shrimp recalled
Frozen shrimp products sold across 17 US states face a major recall due to potential contamination with cesium-137, a radioactive isotope, prompting urgent consumer alerts from the FDA. Direct Source Seafood LLC initiated the voluntary recall of approximately 83,800 bags of frozen raw shrimp imported from Indonesia, distributed under Market 32 and Waterfront Bistro brands. No illnesses have been reported to date, but authorities emphasize precautionary disposal to mitigate any risks.

Recall details and affected products

The recall, announced on December 19, 2025, targets shrimp possibly exposed to cesium-137 during processing, packing, or shipping under insanitary conditions. Products were sold in states including Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming, among others.

This incident forms part of a broader series of recalls linked to Indonesian processor BMS Foods (PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati), where Cs-137 was detected in shipping containers at US ports.

Earlier recalls involved brands like Great Value (Walmart), Sand Bar, Arctic Shores, Best Yet, Great American, First Street, and Kroger's Mercado, with Southwind Foods and Aquastar also issuing alerts.
