‘Mama wanted to send her to God’: Sulphur mother charged for shooting and killing her 1-year-old child, victim’s father reveals he ‘almost lost two babies’; details inside

A woman in Sulphur, Louisiana, is facing murder charges after she allegedly killed her 1-year-old daughter. The suspect, identified as Kristin Bass, was arrested after the tragic incident that occurred on New Year’s Day.

According to the Sulphur Police Department, police responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Quelqueshue Street in Sulphur on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at about 8:21 p.m. local time, PEOPLE and CBS affiliate KFDM reported. After authorities arrived at the scene, they discovered that a child had been shot and killed.

Police have charged the child’s mother, 28-year-old Kristen Bass, with first-degree murder in connection to the incident. She is being held on a bond of $10 million, the police department said.

Deceased child’s father reveals sequence of events

According to KPLC-TV, the child’s father, Bradley Moss, identified the victim as Acelynn Moss. He told KPLC-TV he heard a loud noise and ran into the room, where he saw Bass holding a gun while their 2-year-old child cried for help.

Moss further claimed that Bass told him she shot Acelynn in order to “send her to God.” He further said that she indicated that she was planning to shoot their other child as well.

Moss said he ‘almost lost two babies’

“I almost lost two babies,” he told Fox 8. “I lost one because her mama wanted to send her to God. [My older daughter] said, ‘Help me, Daddy.’ And Kristin said, ‘I just sent our baby to God.’ ” “She said, ‘Now I gotta get her,’” he added, referring to the second child.

Moss said that the statement made by Bass left him in fear for the safety of their older child. The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services later took custody of the surviving child, KPLC-TV reported.
