Nancy Guthrie Case Update: The investigation into the Nancy Guthrie case is in its fifth month, but authorities are still struggling to develop strong leads that could help identify or arrest a suspect despite multiple rewards and ransom notes. Amid the intensive search efforts led by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and later joined by the FBI, several claims and theories have emerged surrounding her disappearance, with social media users and experts speculating about what might have happened on the night Nancy vanished.

Nancy, the 84-year-old mother of NBC journalist Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona home in the early hours of February 1, 2026, and was reported missing by her family members, prompting an investigation. Authorities soon established that she was abducted from her home against her will. Investigators recovered images of an armed, masked individual from a doorbell camera at the residence.

Fresh claims emerge on social media

Social media users have now reported seeing lights on at Nancy Guthrie's Tucson residence, which has sparked fresh concern and speculation. The discussion began after a Facebook post by Lauren Serpa, who said she drove past the 84-year-old’s property around 4 a.m. In her post, Serpa alleged that lights were illuminated in both the main house and a guest house on the property.

“This morning at 4am I drove by Nancys [sic] to leave a letter for the person who took down the memorial. Low and behold [sic] the lights were on in the main house and guest house. Sorry video [sic] is bad. Didn't [sic] want to stop. Also took a picture of the no parking sign and scanned the QR code. The Pima county web site shows this for the QR code..,” she wrote in the Facebook post.

Later, JLR Investigates, an X account following the developments of the Nancy Guthrie case, stated that the lights appeared to be on at the Nancy Guthrie home. Serpa shared a video on Facebook that also appeared to show activity at the property.

The development comes nearly a week after a group in Mexico called “Buscando Corazones Nogales” suggested that they received an anonymous tip that Guthrie was buried in an unmarked grave near the Mexico-Arizona border.

As the reports regarding the anonymous tip began circulating online, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which has been carrying out the investigation in the case in coordination with the FBI, responded to the reports, saying it had not been approached by Mexican authorities.

According to newspaper El Imparcial, the leader of the Nogales collective, which is dedicated to locating missing persons and uncovering clandestine graves, claimed that they received an anonymous call informing them that the 84-year-old woman had been buried in one of the streams in the area known as Mariposa , which is located west of Nogales and near the border strip with Arizona.
