Travis Kelce was facing major legal battle over '1587' trademark before wedding with Taylor Swift; lawsuit details revealed

Travis Kelce, who married pop sensation Taylor Swift in a star-studded event attended by hundreds of celebrities, athletes, and close friends and family, was dealing with legal issues in the days leading up to his mega-wedding, according to TMZ. According to the new documents obtained by the outlet, Travis Kelce and his close friend Patrick Mahomes argue that the shoe company 1587 Sneakers is attempting to sue them in New York federal court, but they insist the case was filed in the wrong jurisdiction.

Kelce and Mahomes maintain that they do not have strong enough connections to New York to justify being brought before a court there, even though 1587 Sneakers argues the NFL stars are regularly featured in national advertising campaigns and can therefore face legal action in the state.

1587 Sneakers filed a lawsuit against Kelce, Mahomes, and their Kansas City steakhouse, 1587 Prime, which opened its doors in September 2025. The restaurant’s name was inspired by Patrick’s jersey number 15 and Kelce’ number 87.


According to TMZ, 1587 Sneakers, a Boston-based company, says its name pays tribute to the year Filipino sailors first arrived in America and claims Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes infringed on their trademark. The company argues it registered “1587” long before the NFL stars adopted it for their Kansas City steakhouse, 1587 Prime.

As part of the lawsuit, 1587 Sneakers is seeking to prevent Kelce and Mahomes from continuing to use the name for their restaurant. Swift and Kelce were married at Madison Square Garden in a secret ceremony, with many details of the celebration still cloaked in mystery. Even after the official announcement on Friday evening, much of the finer information remained under wraps.
