Just weeks before the news of his death, legendary NASCAR driver Kyle Busch celebrated his 41st birthday surrounded by family, with wife Samantha Busch sharing an emotional Instagram tribute. Busch died after being hospitalized for a “severe illness,” NASCAR announced on Thursday, May 21. He had celebrated his birthday on May 2.

Marking the occasion earlier this month, Samantha, 39 posted a heartfelt message dedicated to her husband, reflecting on their life together and his role as a father to their two children, son Brexton, 11, and daughter Lennix, 4.

“You are the most incredible husband and father,” Samantha wrote. The couple, who married in 2010 after first meeting at a racing event in 2007, had built a life deeply connected to NASCAR both on and off the track.

“I thank God every single day that I get to do our crazy life by your side,” Samantha wrote. “We are so grateful for you and all the love, strength, and laughter you bring to our family.”

“Wishing you the happiest birthday and your best year yet,” her post concluded.

The Instagram post featured several photographs of the couple together, along with family moments celebrating Busch’s racing achievements. Samantha also shared videos showing the NASCAR star playing with their daughter on a racetrack inside Walmart, highlighting a softer side of the fiercely competitive driver beloved by fans as “Rowdy.”

“Our thoughts are with Samantha, Brexton and Lennix, Kyle and Samantha’s parents, Kurt and all of Kyle’s family, Richard and Judy Childress, everyone at Richard Childress Racing, his teammates, friends and fans.”

“Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch,” the statement read. “A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation. He was fierce, he was passionate, he was immensely skilled and he cared deeply about the sport and fans.”

“Throughout a career that spanned more than two decades, Kyle set records in national series wins, won championships at NASCAR’s highest level and fostered the next generation of drivers as an owner in the Truck Series,” the statement continued. “His sharp wit and competitive spirit sparked a deep emotional connection with race fans of every age, creating the proud and loyal ‘Rowdy Nation.’”

“NASCAR lost a giant of the sport today, far too soon,” the statement read, while also asking for privacy for the Busch family during the difficult time.
