‘It was like a bomb went off’: One dead, two injured after tractor-trailer crashes into 3 homes and 2 parked cars; homeowner shares chilling details

A person died and two others sustained injuries after a tractor-trailer crashed into three homes and two parked cars in Missouri on Wednesday (September 9, 2026). The incident occurred at around 2 PM when the tractor-trailer was traveling on Interstate 255 in south St. Louis County as it clipped the back of an SUV near Koch Road, PEOPLE reported, citing a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

The crash report claimed that the tractor-trailer was driven by a 52-year-old man from Jerseyville, Ill. From there, it went off the road to the right and tore through a concrete barrier and passed over an outer street before crashing into three houses and two parked cars.

According to the report, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the two people in the SUV, a 73-year-old female driver and a 14-year-old passenger, sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital, the report notes.

Homeowner recalls incident

Homeowner Alice Kosick shared details about the incident while speaking to local outlet First Alert 4 and recounted the moment that she and her husband heard the truck plow into their garage. “I was yelling at [my husband], ‘Are you alright? Are you alright? Call 911!'" Kosick recalled. “It was like a bomb went off. It just flew everything,” she further told the outlet.

“He was right in the middle watching TV, in the back of that door right there. He has a high back of his chair, so everything that blew in blew over the top of him. I was there, and nothing flew there but in the middle, where those two windows are, everything flew to the side.”

Kosick claimed that a group of bystanders who witnessed the crash came to their aid, helping them make their way out of the house. “There are a couple of drivers, truck drivers, I guess, that saw him fly off the freeway, so they ran down to see what was going on and helped us out,” she explained.

The insurance company of the victims put them up in a hotel for the time being. While they anticipate the house to be a complete loss, they hope to rebuild in the exact same spot, according to Kosick. They headed their way back to the site of the crash to survey the damage the following day. Kosick said that her and her husband’s cars are totaled and that their home is heavily damaged. “We’re just thankful we’re not hurt,” she added. “It could have been so much worse.”
