Israel reportedly warns US of alleged Iranian assassination plot targeting President Trump

Israel has reportedly shared new intelligence with the United States about an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate President Donald Trump, according to multiple media reports citing officials familiar with the matter. The intelligence reportedly pointed to a specific and previously unreported threat, prompting US authorities to closely review the information and maintain heightened security around the president. The alleged plot is said to be linked to Iran's long-standing vow to retaliate for the 2020 US drone strike that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, reported CNN. Neither Israel nor Iran has publicly confirmed the reported intelligence, and US officials have not disclosed details about the alleged threat.

Relations between the United States and Iran have become increasingly strained in recent days, with both countries exchanging sharp rhetoric and military actions as hopes for maintaining a ceasefire continue to fade. Trump, who has survived multiple assassination attempts - including the 2024 campaign rally shooting in which a bullet grazed his ear - also addressed the threats against him this week. During funeral ceremonies for Iran's slain Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, over the weekend, large crowds of mourners chanted slogans calling for the death of President Donald Trump. The chants reflected the anger and calls for retaliation that have intensified in Iran since Khamenei was killed at the start of the conflict.
