Relations between the United States and Iran have become increasingly strained in recent days, with both countries exchanging sharp rhetoric and military actions as hopes for maintaining a ceasefire continue to fade. The latest intelligence report has added another layer of concern to an already volatile situation.
According to CNN, one source said Israel delivered the warning to US officials earlier this week. Another source told the network that American intelligence agencies had been tracking persistent reports in recent weeks suggesting potential threats against President Trump. However, the information shared by Israel reportedly identified a new and more specific alleged assassination plot, prompting closer scrutiny by US security officials.
Trump, who has survived multiple assassination attempts - including the 2024 campaign rally shooting in which a bullet grazed his ear - also addressed the threats against him this week. Speaking publicly, he acknowledged the ongoing security concerns and commented on the dangers he continues to face.
“I’m on every list. I saw this morning, I’m on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I’ve been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn’t last very long.”
During funeral ceremonies for Iran's slain Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, over the weekend, large crowds of mourners chanted slogans calling for the death of President Donald Trump. The chants reflected the anger and calls for retaliation that have intensified in Iran since Khamenei was killed at the start of the conflict.
