Most Post Office retail services will also be unavailable, with regular operations scheduled to resume Tuesday, September 8. However, the shutdown does not mean every USPS service stops. Priority Mail Express is among the services that can continue operating on holidays. Customers can also access several postal services online through USPS.com, including package tracking, label printing and other account-based services.

Even when USPS Post Office locations are closed, customers can continue to access a range of postal services online. Through USPS.com, customers can purchase stamps, request free shipping supplies and manage services such as Hold Mail, Change of Address and PO Box rentals or renewals. The website also allows customers to use Click-N-Ship to create and print prepaid shipping labels from home.

Customers may also have access to self-service kiosks at select Post Office locations. These machines allow people to handle several routine mailing tasks without assistance, including purchasing postage, weighing packages, printing postage for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express and international shipments, and checking package tracking information.


As the Postal Service updates its retail network, some locations are also adding newer self-service features. These can include Rapid Dropoff Stations for packages that already have shipping labels, QR-code options that allow customers to print labels, and USPS Smart Lockers for dropping off or collecting packages. Many self-service kiosks operate around the clock, giving customers access to essential postal services even when traditional Post Office counters are closed.
