IRS Stimulus Checks Update: February payouts and the status of Trump’s proposed $2,000 tariff dividend payment
Confusion persists regarding potential IRS payments in February, with no federal direct payments scheduled for February 2026. While a proposed $2,000 tariff dividend was discussed, it remains on hold pending a Supreme Court decision and potential ...

According to Meyka, several false posts often confuse old pandemic-era relief payments with regular tax season updates. In many cases, tax refunds or standard credits are wrongly labeled as new stimulus checks. Any real IRS stimulus update would be clearly posted on IRS.gov and shared through an official government news release, reported Meyka. Until that happens, viral claims on social media should be treated as misinformation. Always verify payment details, dates, and eligibility using official IRS tools or your trusted tax software account, rather than relying on screenshots or unverified posts circulating online.
TRUMP’S PROPOSED $2,000 TARIFF DIVIDEND PAYMENT
In early November, Trump proposed the idea of providing a $2,000 dividend to middle- and lower-income Americans, funded by revenue collected from tariffs. He said the payments could come from the large sums raised through import taxes. However, later in the month, as reported by app.com, Costco and several other US businesses filed lawsuits against the Trump administration. These companies are asking for a full refund of tariffs they paid on imported goods if the Supreme Court rules that the tariffs were unlawful under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
According to app.com, the Supreme Court is expected to rule soon. Its decision could decide whether some or all of the tariffs are invalid and clarify how affected importers would receive refunds if the tariffs are overturned.
According to app.com, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett last month said that any tariff dividend checks would likely require approval from Congress. He noted that the federal deficit is down by about $600 billion compared to last year, which initially made him unsure there was room for such payments. However, he later added that the improved budget situation now makes him more confident that there could be space for a check like that.
President Donald Trump told NBC News, as quoted by app.com, on February 4, "I’m looking at it very seriously," but clarified, "I haven’t made the commitment yet." He also floated the idea that checks might land 'toward the end of the year'.
The bottom line is clear that there is no federal IRS stimulus check scheduled for February 2026, and the proposed $2,000 tariff dividend remains on hold, pending a Supreme Court decision and further policy action.
