Ilhan Omar’s attacker identified as 55-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak; here is why he is being labeled a MAGA supporter online

The man who attacked Rep. Ilhan Omar during a town hall event in Minneapolis has been identified as 55-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak, multiple news outlets reported, including PEOPLE citing the Minneapolis Police Department. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 27, as Omar, 43, was delivering a speech during which she called for the abolition of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and for the resignation or impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

Near the end of her remarks, Kazmierczak, who was seated in the front row, suddenly jumped up and ran toward the lectern before spraying Omar’s shirt with a syringe that appeared to contain an amber-coloured liquid, as per videos circulating online. According to Hennepin County arrest records, Kazmierczak has been charged with third-degree assault and was booked into Hennepin County Jail.

Anthony James Kazmierczak, 55, is the man held without bail in connection with the attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar during a town hall in Minneapolis. He was taken into custody by the Minneapolis Police Department on January 27, 2026, and remains in jail. Jail records list him as a Minneapolis resident, with his booking completed at 8:30 p.m. on the day of the incident.

Kazmierczak has been charged with third-degree assault under Minnesota Statute 609.223, with the case listed as probable cause. Authorities have not disclosed bail details, a court date, or any information about a possible motive at this time.

Some claims circulated online suggesting the suspect may be a MAGA supporter, based on a few photos allegedly taken from a Facebook account bearing his name. The images include one photo of President Donald Trump and another showing the president embracing Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk.


Regarding the substance he threw on Omar, authorities have not confirmed what it was. Though some people on social media claimed it had a strong smell. Others went further, alleging it was urine, while some speculated that the suspect appeared intoxicated.

Following the incident, comparisons between Ilhan Omar and actor Jussie Smollett began circulating online. Some social media users alleged that Ilhan Omar staged her own attack, referencing Smollett’s widely publicized case involving a reportedly fabricated hate crime.
