The latest data from the American Automobile Association (AAA) shows the US national average price for regular gasoline at $4.336 per gallon as of May 31, 2026. The national average declined from $4.356 per gallon on May 30, extending the gradual downward trend that has emerged following the Memorial Day holiday travel period.

While drivers across much of the country are seeing modest relief at the pump, significant regional differences remain.

Gas price today in California

California continues to post the highest gasoline prices in the United States. AAA data for May 31 shows regular gasoline averaging $6.032 per gallon statewide. Mid-grade fuel stands at $6.267 per gallon, while premium gasoline averages $6.449 per gallon. Diesel prices remain exceptionally elevated at $7.306 per gallon, the highest state average in the nation.


Gas price today in Texas

Texas remains one of the most affordable major fuel markets in the country. Regular gasoline averages $3.823 per gallon statewide, more than 50 cents below the national average. Mid-grade fuel costs $4.304 per gallon, while premium gasoline averages $4.672 per gallon. Diesel prices in Texas currently stand at $4.868 per gallon.

Gas price today in Florida

Florida drivers continue to benefit from prices below the national average despite the start of the summer travel season. AAA reports regular gasoline averaging $4.065 per gallon statewide. Mid-grade fuel stands at $4.515 per gallon, premium gasoline averages $4.854 per gallon, and diesel prices are currently $5.158 per gallon.

Gas price today in New York

New York remains above the national average for gasoline prices. Current AAA figures show regular gasoline averaging $4.537 per gallon statewide. Mid-grade fuel costs $5.040 per gallon, while premium gasoline averages $5.429 per gallon. Diesel prices stand at $5.872 per gallon.

Gas price today in Washington

Washington continues to rank among the most expensive fuel markets in the continental United States. Regular gasoline averages $5.708 per gallon, while mid-grade fuel stands at $5.979 per gallon. Premium gasoline costs an average of $6.234 per gallon, and diesel prices are currently $6.660 per gallon.

Gas price today in Hawaii

Hawaii remains one of the country's costliest states for fuel. AAA data shows regular gasoline averaging $5.641 per gallon statewide. Mid-grade gasoline costs $5.880 per gallon, while premium fuel averages $6.124 per gallon. Diesel prices remain extremely high at $7.095 per gallon, second only to California.

Gas price today in Oklahoma

Oklahoma continues to rank among the cheapest gasoline markets nationwide. Regular gasoline currently averages $3.825 per gallon statewide, well below the national average. Mid-grade fuel costs $4.238 per gallon, premium gasoline averages $4.527 per gallon, and diesel prices stand at $4.798 per gallon.

Fuel price trends across the United States

AAA's latest state averages show that California remains the most expensive state for regular gasoline at $6.032 per gallon, followed by Washington ($5.708), Hawaii ($5.641), Oregon ($5.227) and Alaska ($5.223).

At the other end of the spectrum, Indiana reports the nation's lowest regular gasoline price at $3.690 per gallon. Other low-cost states include Texas ($3.823), Oklahoma ($3.825), Georgia ($3.852) and Louisiana ($3.865).

Several states continue to hover close to the national average, including Ohio ($4.357), Wyoming ($4.430), Massachusetts ($4.401) and New Jersey ($4.394), reflecting a broad easing of fuel costs across many regions.
