The steady increase in crude oil prices is pushing retail fuel costs higher. As of Wednesday (March 25, 2026), the national average price for a gallon of regular petrol stood at $3.983, according to AAA. The White House announcement earlier in March, 2026 to release 172 million barrels of oil from its strategic reserves over four months has no immediate relief on the oil market as the price of a barrel of crude continues to climb.
