GAS Prices Today April 5, 2026: Fuel prices across the United States have inched higher, mirroring a sharp rise in global crude oil rates driven by geopolitical tensions tied to the ongoing conflict in Iran. The situation continues to disrupt supply chains and unsettle energy markets. With the spring season officially beginning on March 20, drivers are already feeling the pinch at the pump, according to the latest data from AAA Fuel Prices. Analysts caution that any meaningful relief could take time, leaving consumers to manage elevated gasoline costs in the near term.

The surge in crude oil prices has directly impacted retail fuel rates. As of Sunday, April 5, 2026, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline rose to $4.110, up slightly from $4.104 on April 4. While the day-to-day increase is small, it signals a steady upward trend that is gradually straining household budgets.

A clear regional divide has also emerged in fuel prices. Motorists in high-cost states, particularly on the West Coast, are facing significantly higher rates, with California continuing to record some of the highest prices per gallon in the country.

In contrast, states like Texas are seeing relatively lower fuel costs, highlighting the wide disparity across regions. Meanwhile, states such as Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania sit somewhere in the middle, reflecting a broader national pattern shaped by differences in taxes, supply chains, and refining capacity.

Here are the gas price averages (per gallon) for the top 5 US states by population (Sunday, April 5, 2026):
