Gas prices today
The latest data from AAA shows a modest nationwide dip in gasoline prices, with the US national average at $4.048 per gallon as of April 19, 2026. While the overall trend points to slight relief for drivers, the divide between the most expensive West Coast and island markets and the more affordable Southern and Midwestern states remains pronounced.

States along the Pacific coast and in the Pacific islands continue to dominate the high-price list, while parts of the South and Great Plains are offering some of the lowest pump prices in the country.

Below is a breakdown of current averages for regular, mid-grade, premium, and diesel in key states.

California remains the most expensive fuel market in the nation. Regular gasoline averages $5.839, mid-grade $6.072, premium $6.262, and diesel $7.551 per gallon. Despite the slight national easing, California’s combination of environmental fuel standards, higher taxes, and supply logistics keeps prices elevated well above the national norm.

Gas price today in Texas

Texas continues to be one of the cheapest large states for gasoline. Regular fuel stands at $3.671, mid-grade $4.148, premium $4.519, and diesel $5.156 per gallon. The state’s proximity to refining hubs and lower fuel taxes help keep prices significantly below the national average.
