Spain needed 106 minutes to finally crack Argentina's stubborn resistance, with Ferran Torres scoring the decisive goal in extra time to secure a 1-0 victory and crown La Roja as FIFA World Cup champions for the second time. Argentina's hopes took a major blow when Enzo Fernández was sent off for a second yellow card just before the end of normal time, forcing the defending finalists to play extra time with 10 men. Torres eventually found the breakthrough, while tempers flared after the final whistle as Leandro Paredes was also shown a red card following a mass confrontation.

Off the pitch, the final produced equally memorable moments. Lionel Messi was applauded by the entire stadium as he collected his runners-up medal through tears; Spain's players celebrated their historic triumph with fans, and the trophy ceremony itself sparked widespread discussion. From emotional embraces to spectacular tifos, passionate celebrations, and unforgettable reactions in the stands, photographers captured the full spectrum of emotions that define football's biggest stage.

Spain's victory also extended one of the most remarkable trends in World Cup history. Incidentally, every FIFA World Cup champion has come from either Europe or South America. No nation from any other confederation has ever won the tournament or even reached the final.

South America's World Cup winners are Uruguay, Brazil, and Argentina, while Europe's champions are Italy, Germany, England, France, and Spain.

FIFA, football's international governing body, was founded in 1904 and first organized an intercontinental football competition at the Antwerp 1920 Olympic Games. That tournament paved the way for the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930, hosted by Uruguay as the country celebrated the centenary of its independence. Uruguay, already Olympic champions in 1924 and 1928, defeated Argentina 4-2 in the final to become the first-ever FIFA World Cup winners.
