FIFA World Cup 2026: The FIFA World Cup ‘Round of 16’ is set to deliver two highly anticipated clashes on Sunday (July 5, 2026) with Brazil, five time world champions, continue their pursuit of a record-extending sixth crown after edging past Japan in the Round of 32. Norway, meanwhile, are enjoying a historic return to football’s biggest stage after 28 years. Erling Haaland has been the driving force behind their revival, scoring four goals in the group stage and adding the decisive strike against Côte d’Ivoire in the Round of 32.

Despite a heavy defeat to France, Norway’s progress to the Round of 16 marks only their third time at this stage. Their meeting with Brazil promises to be a fascinating contest between tradition and ambition.

Later in the evening, co-hosts Mexico will take on England in Mexico City. Javier Aguirre’s side won all three group matches and dismantled Ecuador in the Round of 32. Playing their fifth consecutive match on home soil, Mexico chasing a quarter-final berth for the first time since 1986, when they last reached this stage as hosts.

England, on the other hand, are set to return to the same stadium where Diego Maradona’s infamous “Hand of God” goal and dazzling solo strike eliminated them in 1986. This time, the Three Lions arrive with renewed belief, led by Harry Kane’s five goals and Jude Bellingham’s commanding midfield displays.

After surviving a stern test against Congo DR in the Round of 32, England are aiming to build on their recent record of reaching the semi-finals in 2018 and the quarter-finals in 2022. The stakes are high, with a quarter-final showdown in Miami awaiting the winners of these two fixtures.
