People around the world mark Earth Day on April 22 with sustainability campaigns and clean-ups. While the observance fell midweek, several volunteer drives and celebrations are scheduled across New York City throughout this month. Below are some of them on the upcoming weekend as listed on the nycgovparks website.

Earth Day events in NYC on Saturday, April 25


Morning volunteer activities


  • Idlewild Park — Tree and shrub planting, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Volunteers help restore forest areas and improve air quality.
  • Marine Park — Forest restoration drive, 9:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m., focusing on biodiversity and habitat protection.
  • Greenbelt Nature Center — Earth Day Spring Spruce-Up, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., campus clean-up and preparation for spring.
Community garden events

  • Two Coves Community Garden — Volunteer day and seed planting, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
  • Amboy Street Garden — Composting and planting session, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
  • Harlem Valley Garden — Garden clean-up volunteer workday, 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
