Earth Day 2026: Events to attend in New York City this weekend

People around the world mark Earth Day on April 22 with sustainability campaigns and clean-ups. While the observance fell midweek, several volunteer drives and celebrations are scheduled across New York City throughout this month. Morning volunteer activities

• Idlewild Park — Tree and shrub planting, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Volunteers help restore forest areas and improve air quality.
• Marine Park — Forest restoration drive, 9:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m., focusing on biodiversity and habitat protection.
• Greenbelt Nature Center — Earth Day Spring Spruce-Up, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., campus clean-up and preparation for spring.

Community garden events

• Two Coves Community Garden — Volunteer day and seed planting, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
• Amboy Street Garden — Composting and planting session, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
